Remote working became a norm during the heightened time of the pandemic. In efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus, most business operations, negotiations, and collaboration moved to online meeting platforms.
As a result, video conferencing software surged in demand. Zoom’s video conferencing platform stood at the forefront of meeting solutions in the market. Inevitably, Zoom rapidly grew.
Of course, the pandemic made Zoom developers realize a lot of things. And as a customer-centric company, Zoom carefully listened to its customers’ needs. In response, Zoom constantly upgraded its platform to ensure it delivers quality service much needed by people during these difficult times.
Gradually, Zoom introduced innovative features to satisfy and enhance the overall meeting experience for its users. Here are some practical and innovative features that Zoom introduced for general meetings.
Before, the online conference background would most probably be the office board room, but for outside office participants that’s not the case. Zoom Virtual Background is highly-designed for employees remotely working who don’t have a dedicated workstation or a neat background for broadcast.
Moreover, by turning this feature on, employees can maintain their homes’ privacy away from the participants’ eyes. Plus, it can also avoid exposing unexpected scenes in the background that might distract the meeting.
Zoom can automatically separate the subject in the foreground from the background with no green screen required. Then, you can choose among the downloadable creative virtual background or upload an image or MP4 or MOV file — it’s your choice!
Meetings can occur at any time of the day. Sometimes, employees won’t even have the time to groom up before a video call. Woke up with dark eyes? Or missed your morning coffee? Face it; Zoom got you covered!
In the video settings menu, you can find ‘Touch Up My Appearance.’ Like the filter camera in your smartphone, you can toggle the intensity of the touch-up on your skin in the settings. A live preview is also available.
With this feature, Zoom touches up the appearance of skin blemishes. As a result, the user looks fresh and radiant on the screen. More so, the filter blends so well that meeting participants can’t tell you have it on.
Whenever you’re hosting a meeting, ensure to admit only the ones invited. With easy link sharing, anyone can get a copy of the meeting link and passcode. Meeting hosts can filter the attendees by enabling the Waiting Room.
As the meeting host, you can ‘admit’ one participant or everyone all together at a time. In case an unwanted guest is in the queue, you can send the guest a message informing them that they are not supposed to be in the meeting. Afterwards, remove them easily from the list.
Furthermore, the meeting hosts have the power to allow users to bypass the Waiting Room. Disabling this feature will allow participants to directly join the meeting without the need for consent. For an extra layer of security, we recommend users always activate the Waiting Room.
Experienced a technical failure during an important meeting? No need to worry; you can download a recorded Zoom meeting. With Zoom, there is no need to jot down notes or take screenshots during the entire session.
Important meeting events can easily be recorded with a simple click of a button. Then, an AI-powered technology processes the transcription. Once done, it would appear as a separate [.VTT] file in the list of recorded meetings.
On top of that, you have the option to display the transcript text within the video display as closed captions. Meeting audio can also be transcribed. Unfortunately, this feature is exclusive to paid Zoom accounts Zoom Pro and Zoom Business.
Commonly, users can share a screen one at a time. However, Zoom offered the option for multiple screen sharing that allows two or more participants to share their screen at the same time in one meeting.
For those on desktops and PCs, attendees can select ‘View Option’ to navigate through the shared screens. Meanwhile, if the attendee has two monitors, they can see two most recently shared screens with an option to view others.
Meanwhile, participants connected via the Zoom mobile app will have no choice but to view the most recent shared screen. Of note, the host can opt to switch the option of one screen at a time for the whole duration of the meeting. Lastly, this feature is not available for Zoom Webinars.
